Here
is a car buying tip everyone can sink their teeth into and it is
one where you don't have to jump a lot of hoops to get. Back in
March 2007 the Canadian Government Budget came out with a rebate
under the Canadian Government ecoAuto Rebate Program. The rebate
enables Canadians to receive a rebate from $1000 to $2000 if they
purchase new fuel-efficient cars.
Cars
in the model year 2006 and 2007 qualify for the rebate which includes
some hybrid electric vehicles and other highly energy-efficient
vehicles. You
can find the list of cars subject to the Canadian Government ecoAuto
Rebate Program below:
1. Model year 2006
2.
Model year 2007
The
main points about the Canadian Government ecoAuto Rebate Program
you need to keep in mind when car buying or car leasing are as follows:
-
If you bought or leased (leasing longer than 12 months) your car
after March 20, 2007 you are entitled to the rebate - but - the
car your purchased has to be on the list. Any car bought or leased
prior to March 20, 2007 does not apply under the Canadian Government
ecoAuto Rebate Program.
- Any
person, organization, government can apply for the rebate as long
as the car was purchased or leased (leased for more than 12 months)
can apply for the rebate as long as the car meets the fuel consumption
criteria.
- Car
Dealership demonstrator models are entitled under the Canadian
Government ecoAuto Rebate Program, again as long as that vehicle
meets the program's parameters.
- You
can apply by getting the proper forms at the Dealership where
you bought or leased your car, Service Canada Service Centres
across Canada or save yourself a run out get it through our car
shopping tip center.
- Only
cars bought or leased in Canada are eligible for the Canadian
Government ecoAuto Rebate Program, if you purchased or leased
your car in the US then you aren't entitled to the rebate program.
The
paperwork is pretty simple, you fill out the Canadian Government
ecoAuto Rebate Program form
and attach a copy of your sales/lease agreement (copies - do not
send your originals) and make sure the dealership has included all
the required information - including their address. You also need
to send a copy of the vehicle registration and ensure it has your
recent address on it. You fill everything out, attach copies of
the necessary paperwork that is required and mail it off to the
Processing Center in Calgary and wait for your Canadian Government
ecoAuto Rebate to come in the mail.
If
you are considering buying or leasing a 2008 vehicle and want to
consider one to get the rebate, the 08 list hasn't been posted as
of yet but keep checking back at your car
buying tip center and we will keep you posted of any changes!
